El Segundo, CA - December 6, 2001 - Activision and
DaimlerChrysler Group recently announced the incorporation
of the Jeep brand into the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 game,
which was released for PlayStation 2 earlier this month.
The product placement deal was engineered by R.E.D. - Representing
Entertainers & Developers, which specializes in securing development
deals for game studios and locating development teams for
publishers' licensed properties. The Jeep-Tony Hawk
deal represents new territory for the game agency, which plans
to make product placement a significant part of its business
development services for the interactive entertainment industry.
"This is really a natural progression from our core business,"
said R.E.D. co-founder and partner Paul Cunningham. "A great
deal of our work involves assisting publishers in locating
the right studios to develop their game projects. Now, we
are also helping them generate and additional revenue stream
from their titles on top of retail sales, and providing companies
like DaimlerChrysler with a new avenue for marketing their
products."
As Jeff Bell, vice president marketing communications DaimlerChrysler
Corporation, explained in announcing their participation in
the agreement: "Jeep has always been associated with action
sports like skateboarding, snowboarding, and rock climbing.
It is a natural partnership to be associated with the virtual
world of each of these activities. Our alliance with Activision
on its upcoming Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 game makes
Jeep more visible to this key consumer segment." .
R.E.D. is the interactive game industry's leading representation
company. The firm assists talented interactive game developers
in securing development agreements with publishing companies,
and works with publishers to find the right teams to develop
their licenses.
