El Segundo, CA - March 19, 2001 - R.E.D. - Representing
Entertainers & Developers, announced that its client Studio
Gigante, a talented new game studio, has secured a game development
deal with one of the industry's leading publishing companies.
While the details of the agreement are being kept under wraps
for the time being, the deal is a multi-million project to
develop a fighting game title for a next-generation console.
Studio Gigante was formed in 2000 by John Tobias to follow
up on his Mortal Kombat success. The Mortal Kombat
games have sold more than 20 million copies in the home market,
and the coin-operated series has generated hundreds of millions
of dollars in revenue. Tobias also had a hand in creating
the many spin-off properties associated with Mortal Kombat,
including the blockbuster films, a syndicated television show,
an animated series and various toy lines.
"Our goal in working with Studio Gigante was to secure for
them development projects that were creatively challenging
and financially rewarding, and we are happy that we succeeded
together," said R.E.D.'s Jeff Brunner. "The next-generation
consoles are some of the most exciting things happening in
interactive entertainment, and Studio Gigante will develop
a top-flight title."
